Caron: a C and an O instead of a K and an E

Marriage Proposal of the Day: In what is believed to be the first proposal of marriage between two gay men — and war vets — on a U.S. military base, Navy vet Cory Huston asked Marine Avarice Guerrero to marry him Tuesday at Camp Pendleton in San Diego. Here’s the story:

Under a bright Southern California sky at Camp Pendleton’s Camp Del Mar near Oceanside, California, a full two hours before his boyfriend’s return from the badlands of Afghanistan, Cory Huston waited nervously. Huston, who was discharged under the former Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy, chain smoked as he rehearsed the simple proposal he would deliver when Guerrero would arrive.
Finally, luggage in tow, Guerrero emerged with a smile on his face. Upon seeing Huston, Guerrero dropped his bags; aimed a kiss toward Huston’s lips; and opened his arms to his boyfriends waiting embrace. The time and distance of 10 months’ separation evaporated in a public show of affection that less than a year ago would have been cause for court martial. After a few minutes of emotional holding and kissing, Huston went anxiously down on one knee; looked up at Guerrero, who was dressed from head to toe in military fatigues; and produced an engagement ring and the time-honored phrase, “Will you marry me?”
Huston’s mild tremble, a result of hours and days of anticipation about this day, was quickly quieted by the one word every hopeful fiancé wants to hear: “Yes.”

This is probably one of the most beautiful and amazing things I have read. This makes me proud of America…

I am slowly but learning new things about myself on this trip. Living with the same people for 8.5 weeks so far has been incredibly hard on me. But I have learned a few things about myself…

I react way too quickly to things…I jump in and say the first words out of my mouth. This almost always ends badly.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, sometimes I let things piss me off for too long before I say something. I need to speak my mind, but not react too quickly. I need to think of what to say that will be constructive and helpful, not demoralizing and destructive.

Sometimes, I really shouldn’t worry about being left out and have a day to myself. Yesterday I just slept in the car, listened to music, and watched a movie. Today, I feel fabulous, refreshed, and know how I feel about everything. I have had time to formulate the sentences to express how I feel about everything that is happening around me. No word vomit today…Hopefully.

If only Elle Woods was here to save the day and stop animal testing!!

Window Display of the Day: Jacqueline Traide, a 24-year-old performance artist, recently volunteered for a starring role she won’t soon forget: 10 hours of torture — cosmetics testing — in a Lush Cosmetics window display. The shocking performance, during which thousands of London passersby witnessed Jacqueline being roughly manhandled and administered to by a “lab technician,” was meant to draw attention to the pain and cruelty inflicted on animals during lab tests for beauty products.
Dressed in nothing but a flesh-colored body stocking, Jacqueline and her counterpartre-enacted widely used tests. She was given injections and had her skin abraded and smothered in lotions and potions, then endured eye irritants and having a strip of her hair shaved off on one of Britain’s busiest streets.
“I hope it will plant the seed of a new awareness in people to really start thinking about what they go out and buy and what goes into producing it,” Jacqueline said.

That awkward moment when I hate everyone on this trip and I am so tired of all the bullshit.

I miss my real friends who understand me and get me. And no one here does…

This experience is amazing…if only I could have handpicked the people who came with me. Because I am pretty sure it would be none of these people.

The Odyssey has our very own YouTube channel...CHECK IT OUT.

All I need for the rest of my life are three things:

1. BAKLAVA: With tons of honey oozing everywhere, even better if its the shredded wheat kind.

2. Spanikopita: preferably from that pizza place in Meteora where we got it fresh out of the oven

3. GREEK SALAD: Just olives, a giant slice of feta, tomatos, cucumbers, onion, and olive oil. There really is no need for lettuce; that’s actually kinda ruining it.

So I am never leaving Greece.

CAN I HAZ JULIAN TOO. :(
